Global leaders in corporate social responsibility practices and innovators of sustainable outdoor clothing, accessories and hardware, Patagonia has teamed up with Australian surfing legend Wayne Lynch and industry pioneer Glen Casey, to open its first Australian retail store in Torquay, Victoria. Patagonia have an incredibly strong commitment to sustainable business practise and have donated tens of millions of dollars to environmental programs through the 1% For The Planet Foundation. Commitment to quality, durable products, transparency in their “green marketing” and use of innovative, sustainable materials are also important to Patagonia. You can track many of Patagonia’s products through their “Footprint Chronicles” which examine the environmental impact of product during its entire construction process. How many companies can you think of that not only document their environmental impacts but also encourage feedback and criticism from their consumers?!
Patagonia starts in Australia with a flagship store in Torquay which showcases their recent entry into the worldwide surf market after years of success in the outdoor apparel and hardware market. Fletcher Chouinard Designs (FCD) surfboards, which are designed and shaped by the son of Patagonia’s founder, Yvon Chouinard, will be available along with a range of surf clothing and accessories. Perhaps among the most exciting products that will be available is the newly developed range of wetsuits that uses limestone based neoprene, recycled polyester and chlorine free merino wool insulation along with PVC free kneepads.
Along with the new Torquay store, you can expect to see the wetsuits and other Patagonia gear available in surf stores around the country in the coming months. Check out Patagonia's surf range here.
Keep an eye on the Surfing Green Website as we hope to be stocking Patagonia’s products as they become available and are looking forward to supporting an environmentally responsible company.
